in the wake of the issues surrounding the samsung galaxy note 7, consumers are more aware of products overheating and companies have to be prepared to respond immediately to concerns. evga has done just that after there were notices on the internet about its geforce gtx 1080, 1070, and 1060 graphic cards.

evga recently released a firmware update that “tweaked” the thermal management of the cards to a safer level, according to a report on slashgear.com. the problem was only with cards that used the acx 3.0 cooler, but evga is suggesting updates to the vbios firmware for all users.

in addition, evga has also offered free thermal pads to customers and will honor the warranty if users “mess up” the card when trying to apply the pad.

as a report on universityherald.com noted, graphics cards are notoriously hot because of their size and the amount of power that is dissipated from them, but that the “thermal temperatures were marginally within specification.” the temperature was upwards of 70°c.
