one of the biggest announcements at its release was that hyundai would be giving customers a full lifetime warranty on the battery of its electric vehicles, allaying any fears from consumers that they may need an expensive battery replacement after purchasing the car, according to a report on cleantechnica.com.
in a report on forbes, it was noted that the ioniq uses more aluminum parts that its combustion engine counterpart, the elantra. the ioniq also has a floorplan that can accommodate batteries of various sizes. hyundia uses a single electric motor that is surrounded by the engine and a six-speed dual clutch transmission.
the hybrid engine in the ioniq has an “unusually” long stroke relative to the bore diameter, which gives it a smaller surface area to volume ratio and lowers the heat transfer through the cylinder’s walls. the forbes article noted, “this keeps the energy in the engine where it can do work.”
hyundai announced that car also uses bio-fabrics in the interior to project an eco-conscious design. the car will also have a smartphone app that allows drivers to monitor battery levels, decide if the car needs to be plugged in and set a charging time to take advantage of off-peak electricity rates.
