early in december, tesla announced that it was voluntarily recalling nearly 7,000 adapters for electric vehicle charging after reports from two customers that the nema 14-30 adapters had overheated and cause melted plastic on the plugs.

tesla had stopped production on those adapters in either late 2104 or early 2105, according to a report on industryweek.com. the adapters were for charging vehicles via clothes-dryer outlets in u.s. homes and were sold only through the company’s website, although that page no longer exists.
replacement adaptors will be shipped, if they have not already. tesla will also be replacing its nema 10-30 and 6-50 adapters in the coming months, despite no reports of issues, because of their design is similar to the nema 14-30.
the adapter was manufactured by an outside supplier and, according to tesla, had not been sold in the past six months.
