at the start of january, particularly with the ces 2017 taking place in las vegas, computer companies looked to start the new year with a bang and announced several laptops and computers that they hope will change the game for user experience and for thermal management in high-powered machines.

cyberpower announced its newest release at ces. the syber xl-series uses new chassis that have “superior airflow” to keep the seventh generation intel processors cool. the cases can support up to four gpu, eight drives, and “elaborate” liquid cooling systems.
the cyberpowerpc hyper cooling series use hard-tube liquid cooling systems that can be personalized with different coolant colors and lighting. the system offers a 27 percent improvement over standard gpu coolers. a line of vr-ready laptops were also announced.
msi launched its ge72 and ge62 laptops that will have intel’s kaby lake mobile processors and nvidia game ready technologies to boost performance for gamers. importantly, the laptops will also include enhanced cooler boost 4 technology with twin fans cooling the cpu and gpu and with thick copper heat pipes on the processors. users can also click on turbo fan boost, which the company describes as “injecting nos gas into the fans, increasing its rpm and blasting those heat away.”
the always popular alienware also jumped into the fray at ces 2017 with new 17-, 15-, and 13-inch gaming laptops. the back cover of the alienware 17 is made of aluminum and was designed so that the back hinge was not flush with the back of the laptop. that back section is “dedicated to thermal management” and all of the heat will be pulled to the back of the laptop.
underneath the laptop is an air intake that cools the system and then exhausts out the back. there are also airways leading in from the sides when being used for less power-intensive activities such as browsing the web.

finally, razer made waves at ces 2017 by announcing its project valerie, a multi-screen laptop based on its 17-inch razer blade pro. two additional monitors swing out from the main screen to create “an immersive field of view,” while maintaining the laptop’s portability. even at just 1-1/2 inches thick and weighing less than 12 pounds, valerie is not the lightest or smallest laptop but saves users from having to bring multiple monitors with them. the laptop will maintain the razer blade pro’s vapor chamber thermal management.
