according to the release, eltek would be responsible for delivery, installation, service, and monitoring of the solar power systems. the systems will include the company’s rectiverter technology, which combines the functions of a rectifier and an inverter to allow for adaptability in the field.
“the main purpose of the installation will be to provide safe, reliable and environmentally friendly electricity to hospitals in remote areas that currently have no, or poor, grid access,” the release stated. “a key challenge in these hospitals is to keep medicines refrigerated and to provide other essentials necessary for the hospitals to treat their patients.”
undp works in nearly 170 countries with the stated mission of eradicating poverty and reducing inequalities and exclusion. undp works to “develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results.
undp’s solar for heath program, which includes the work that eltek is doing in zimbabwe, provides solar power resources for hospitals and medical clinics located in places that are not connected to the grid. by providing these clinics with electricity, undp and its partners give the ability for air conditioning, cooling of medical supplies and instruments, and even hot water.
