Novel wireless iPhone charger ditches LED and charges at max rates

Elevation Lab, based in Portland, Ore., has released the NightPad, a new wireless iPhone charger that removes the LED that can keep a room bright during the night and that charges a phone 50 percent faster than standard Qi wireless chargers.

According to the company website, the NightPad supports Apple fast charging. It added, “As an Apple MFi member, we have precise fixed frequency electronics that allow iPhone to accept up to 7.5W (many wireless chargers claim this but max out at 3-5W). It also lessens radio interference.”

In addition, the NightPad uses underside vents and “intelligent electronics” with optimized thermal management to avoid overheating during nighttime use. It also works with cases up to 3 mm thick, although the company has tested it for double that thickness.

A recent review from 9to5Mac.com added, “While a majority of wireless chargers sport LED indicators, they can definitely be distracting if you’re using them in your bedroom. ElevationLab opted to skip the LEDs for this reason. The company notes that this isn’t a loss as far as knowing when your iPhone is charging since you get the audio chime or vibration when the device has started charging.”
