Company introduces innovative method for cooling PV modules to increase efficiency

Coolback, a company based in the Netherlands but with test facilities in Spain and Qatar, developed a new method for the cooling photovoltaic (PV) solar modules that it claims will increase efficiency and the lifespan of the module.

According to the company’s website, the COOLBACK® system is an integrated back sheet and frame solution that uses natural convection and radiation to reduce solar cell temperature and minimizes the amount of dirt in the cell. 

 

The site added, “COOLBACK® is especially suited for solar harvesting environments located in high solar irradiation conditions.”

 

The company was founded as a low-concentration PV project in the Middle East in 2011. After a market shift made PV modules less expensive, the company shifted to creating thermal management solutions that would make PV modules more efficient. After two years of research and development and extensive testing Spain and Qatar, the company released COOLBACK®.

 

“Pioneering for the future is important,” the site continued, “as COOLBACK® sets the premise for further innovation in mounting, stacking and tracking. Optimizing PV output at reduced costs calls for lateral thinking and questioning current industry standards and conventions.”
