HERMES-AWARD Nomination for Biomaterial Based Diffuser from EBM-Papst

the jury, presided by prof. wolfgang wahlster, managing director of the german research center for artificial intelligence (dfki) and member of the nobel prize academy, selected from fifty-four applicants. the winner of the coveted international technology prize will be distinguished at the opening celebration of the hannover messe on sunday, april 7, 2013.

rainer hundsdörfer, chairman of the board of managing directors of the ebm-papst group commented, "i am pleased about the top-class distinction. yet again it confirms the clear technological leadership of ebm-papst. and it confirms not only our aim to improve and advance the energy efficiency of our fans and motors, but also our goal to manufacture these products using means that conserve resources. it is more evidence that ecology and economy do not clash, but instead belong together."

ebm-papst will, for the first time ever, present the nominated diffuser at the hannover messe in hall 15 at booth f31. the diffuser provides a significant improvement to noise characteristics and efficiency for applications such as heat exchangers. the acoustic improvement is particularly of interest if fans are operating in noise-sensitive environments such as residential areas. the diffuser works like a reversed nozzle and, through its pressure-boosting effectiveness, reduces exit loss substantially as well. energy savings of up to 27 % and a simultaneous reduction of operating noise by 7.2 db(a) are attainable. the axitop is merely 250 mm tall and is easy to install and retrofit. an application design change is usually not required, even when retrofitting. with a focus on ecology, ebm-papst perfected these persuasive diffuser properties by using epylen, a wood/plastic composite material developed by ebm-papst.

in addition to the axitop of epylen, ebm-papst is showcasing a number of industrial exhibits at this year's hannover messe, including some for use in gazprom's gas pipelines. that is how the technology specialist is supporting infrastructure for ensuring the transport of gas from russia with energy saving ec fans – the partner nation of the hannover messe this year. ebm-papst's booth is f31 and can be found in hall 15.
