toyota's ercan m. dede, jaewook lee, tsuyoshi nomura have released a slide deck on multiphysics simulation and opitmization for thermal management of electronic systems.  they cover the mathematical approach to topololgy optimization for cold plates.   they also discuss in the presentation:
