amax, a leading manufacturer of data center and cloud computing solutions, recently announced the release of [smart]dc data center manager, an out-of-band data center infrastructure management solution for heterogeneous data centers.
[smart]dc was developed to meet the growing demands of data centers that are turning to cloud services and need to find cost-savings through better use of space and resources. it is a plug and play, on-premises server appliance with built-in software that “manages legacy and white-box platforms using a single pane of glass, whether through a user-friendly gui, command line or integration into an existing gui via exposed api,” according to a press release from amax.

it has been designed to work with all major server platforms, including ocp technology, and will provide real-time data on server activity, power consumption, and thermal management. it will allow data center operators to make data-driven decisions on the center’s needs and to monitor the health of the servers.
[smart]dc will also increase density per rack through its power consumption analytics. amax reports that it can create up to 30 percent in power savings by identifying underutilized servers and workload distribution.
"working with companies running large, global data centers, we started seeing similar pain points. they needed to be able to operate and scale without the cost and complexity of their operations getting out of hand, and they needed a way to streamline management for better control," said dr. rene meyer, director of product development at amax.
