new york, june 25, 2012 – during proceedings of the 2012 asme annual meeting held earlier this month in montreal, canada, the society's nominating committee announced three new nominees for the asme board of governors. stacey swisher harnetty of kingsport, tenn., andrew c. taylor, p.e., of russellville, ark., and william m. worek, ph.d., of houghton, mich.

their three-year terms, commencing in june 2013, will provide asme (american society of mechanical engineers) with the professional leadership and direction needed to support the organization's mission, vision and strategic initiatives, and for establishing the policies and procedures for the governance of the society.

swisher harnetty, a resident of kingsport, tenn., has been a member of asme since 1991. she currently serves as director of stream strategy at eastman chemical company, in kingsport, where she is responsible for leading the stream strategy organization in optimizing long-term corporate value of the two largest and most profitable product streams. she joined eastman chemical in 1991.

she currently serves as vice chair of the asme sector management committee and recently completed a term as senior vice president of the asme public affairs and outreach sector. swisher harnetty also served as senior vice president of the strategic management sector and vice president of public information. she is the recipient of the asme dedicated service award and was awarded fellow membership in 2011.

swisher harnetty received her bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from tennessee technological university (cookeville, tenn.) and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from virginia polytechnic and state university (blacksburg, va.).

taylor, a resident of russellville, ark., has been a member of asme since 1981. he currently serves as a mechanical engineering supervisor at entergy nuclear, in russellville, and is an expert in nuclear power plant license renewal. during a 30-year career of active and reserve duty in the u.s. navy, he held several commanding officer and leadership instructor positions.

at asme, he serves as lead trainer for the volt academy and as an instructor on ethics for the international petroleum technology institute (houston) and the international gas turbine institute (atlanta), and is a member of the executive board at the national institute for engineering ethics. he served as vice president of the asme center for leadership and diversity and as chair of the asme mississippi section, the arkansas section and the asme nuclear plant systems committee.

taylor earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the university of oklahoma and a master's in management from the university of arkansas.

worek, a resident of houghton, mich., has been a member of asme since 1976 and is an asme fellow. he is the dave house professor and dean of engineering at michigan technological university (mtu - houghton). prior to joining mtu, professor worek was head of the department of mechanical and industrial engineering at the university of illinois (chicago) where he also served as director of the energy resources center. he is an expert in energy systems, comfort, industrial processes and combined heat and power.

at asme, he served as vice president of the energy resources group and was a long standing member of the publications committee. he is also editor for applied thermal engineering; coordinating editor for heat transfer asian research, and associate editor for energy. he is on the editorial boards of the international journal of heat and mass transfer and international communications in heat and mass transfer.

while attending the illinois institute of technology (chicago), worek earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering and both his master's and doctorate in mechanical engineering.
