Dow Corning conductive grease brings home prestigious Advanced Packaging Award
midland, mich. – july 21, 2005 – dow corning corporation today announced that its newest thermally conductive grease, dow corningtc-5022, has won the best new thermal material award from advanced packaging, a prestigious trade publication for the packaging industry.
the award underscores the rapid market acceptance tc-5022 has experienced since its introduction less than five months ago. in june, amd approved the material for use on its amd64 processors and in its bundled processor-in-a-box (pib) product offerings. dow corning accepted the honor at an awards ceremony held during last week’s semicon west trade show in san francisco.
tc-5022 offers a step-change in thermal performance and cost of ownership for high-end microprocessor packages. according to customer testing, tc-5022 offers a 10-15 percent reduction in thermal resistance, improving thermal performance over other thermal grease options on the market today.
used as the thermal “path” between the microprocessor package and its device-cooling heat sink, the grease provides a highly efficient transfer of heat away from the processor. this gives integrated circuit makers greater versatility in selecting heat sink options, including the use of lower cost heat sinks that enable users to reduce overall manufacturing and system costs.
