epac’s new coldplate v7.0 software makes design and analysis of cold plates for electronic cooling easier and faster then ever before. coldplate from epac has been updated to include serpentine, parallel or custom layout tube flow. the software permits simple and time saving modeling compared to cfd, yet performs complex analysis and delivery of comprehensive results using its built-in finite difference modeling. included are color contour plots with animated steady-state or transient display capability. also included in the program are database libraries of material properties, fin types and coolants as well as a large selection of environmental input parameters. the software allows extensive design iterations using its powerful variable analysis and optimization capability. in most cases with coldplate, it is not necessary to refine the design or analysis using cfd or fem modeling. where more refined analysis is to be performed, intermediate results such as effective film coefficient or conductivity from the software can be used as input to the refined analysis to simplify the modeling. with the program’s repeatedly proven accuracy and ease of use, more in depth analysis is not normally needed.
