Kickstarter campaign started for Calyos fanless computer chassis

belgian heat pipe company calyos, which was recently featured in a story on coolingzone, has started a campaign on kickstarter for its nsg s0, the world’s first fanless chassis for high-performing desktop computers that promises to go beyond air and liquid cooling for a passive (and silent) cooling solution.

according to the kickstarter page, the nsg s0 will require no moving parts, no dust, no maintenance and no energy consumption to provide superior cooling for a pc. calyos released data that its chassis cooled cpu below that of competitor liquid and air cooling options and did so with a significant decrease in ambient noise.

the company was looking to raise more than $150,000 and with 16 days remaining in the campaign there were already pledges of nearly $250,000. it was also honored in two categories at ces 2017.

the technology works with calyos’ loop heat pipes. two loops are created, one going to the motherboard and the second to the graphics card. each loop has an evaporator and a condenser linked by tubing and heat transfer is fully passive.

this technology has already been used in space industries and in data centers. the company is now focusing on providing phase-change and loop heat pipes to consumer products.

calyos is hoping to have this technology available for shipping by september.
